The steamer trunk—ah, that romantic throwback to long-distance jaunts when travellers could rely on a bevy of hired help to lug the unwieldy boxes around. At the end of the 19th century, a smaller and more portable bag for suits was introduced, making travel more convenient and certainly more accessible to those without servants.
